ANKARA (AA) - World No. 3 Simona Halep announced her withdrawal from the Tokyo Olympics, saying she needs more time to recover from calf injury.
"Nothing brings me more pride than representing Romania, but sadly the recovery from my calf injury requires more time and I have made the decision to withdraw from the Olympic Games this summer," she said on Twitter late Monday.
Halep also pulled out of the French Open and Wimbledon due to her injury.
The 29-year-old Romanian player is a two-time Grand Slam champion in singles – French Open in 2018 and Wimbledon in 2019.
