BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) - Slovenia raised the Palestinian flag on the government building in the capital Ljubljana on Friday.
The move came after the government endorsed a motion on Thursday for Slovenia to recognize a state of Palestine and referred it to the National Assembly for final approval.
During a session held on Thursday, the government assessed the recognition of the State of Palestine.
Prime Minister Robert Golob stated to the media that they decided to recognize Palestine as an independent and sovereign state within the 1967 borders, in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.
Golob added that they would convey the decision in question to the parliament and ask for support from MPs.
The Slovenian Parliament is anticipated to meet next week to discuss the recognition of the State of Palestine.
Spain, Norway, and Ireland officially decided to recognize Palestine on May 28.
