ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine’s chief rabbi on Wednesday said his son died while fighting for the country's military on the front line with Russia.
“Tomorrow in the Central Synagogue (Brodsky Synagogue) there will be a farewell to my son Matityagu (Anton Samborsky), who died at the front defending Ukraine,” Moshe Reuven Azman said on X.
According to state news agency Ukrinform, the service will be held on Thursday at 1 a.m. local time (1000GMT). After the vigil, a convoy will proceed to the Jewish cemetery.
Azman last month said he and his wife adopted Samborsky in 2002, and he went missing in July after being drafted and sent to the front line.
"The last time we talked to Moty (Samborsky) was on July 17. On July 24, he went missing during a battle. His wife received an official document," he said.
