TOKYO (AA) - Sony released a new model of the PlayStation 5 (PS5) console in Japan, which is physically smaller and has a higher memory capacity.
Stores in Japan have started selling the new PS5 Slim consoles, according to Sony Interactive Entertainment.
The disc-less model is priced at $395 (59,980 yen) and the ultra HD Blu-Ray disc-equipped model is available for $442 (66,980 yen).
The new model is approximately 30% smaller than the initial design launched in November 2020, and its memory capacity has been increased to 1 terabyte.
When compared to the first models, the weight has been reduced by 18% for the disc-equipped PS5 Slim model and 24% for the disc-less model.
The Japanese company, which plans to halt sales of the older models as current stocks deplete, will commence overseas sales of PS5 Slim later this month.
