ANKARA (AA) - South Korea's main opposition party plans to submit a new motion next weekend to impeach President Yoon Suk-yeol over his recent aborted martial law declaration.

Lee Jae-myung, leader of the main opposition Democratic Party (DP), said the opposition will try again next Saturday, Dec. 14.

"Yoon, the principal culprit behind the insurrection and military coup that destroyed South Korea's constitutional order, must either resign immediately or be impeached without delay," Lee told reporters on Sunday.

"On Dec. 14, our Democratic Party will impeach Yoon in the name of the people," he was quoted as saying by local media.

The remarks came a day after Yoon averted an opposition-led motion to impeach him after ruling party lawmakers boycotted the impeachment session, preventing a vote.
