Spanish European lawmaker urges government to suspend diplomatic ties with Israel

'They are not going to stop, and Europe must stop being complicit in these genocides,' PODEMOS party's Montero says, reiterating her call for an arms embargo against Israel

ATHENS (AA) – A Spanish left-wing European lawmaker urged the government on Wednesday to suspend diplomatic relations with Israel.

Commenting on the Israeli attack on prominent Hezbollah commander Fouad Shukr in Beirut, Irene Montero of the PODEMOS party said on X, “They are not going to stop, and Europe must stop being complicit in these genocides.”

Reiterating her call for an arms embargo against Israel, she urged the Spanish government to seize the ship carrying fuel for Israeli forces, which is currently in Spanish waters, to prevent it from reaching Israel.

On Tuesday, the Israeli military struck southern Beirut, targeting Fouad Shukr, in apparent retaliation for Hezbollah’s Saturday attack on the Druze town of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

While Israel blamed Hezbollah for the attack, the group denied any responsibility.

The Lebanese Health Ministry said at least three people were killed and 74 others injured in the Israeli strike on Beirut.
