ISTANBUL (AA) - The Kremlin said Wednesday that speculations in the West about Russia’s potential involvement in a leak at the Balticconnector offshore gas pipeline are “standard Russophobic reflexes.”
“Speculation immediately began there (the West) about what would happen if Russia was behind this. Yes, these are standard Russophobic reflexes that we have encountered more than once,” spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists in Moscow.
Peskov said no accusations were made against Russia concerning the leak.
“We said from the very beginning that any such eventual reasoning is unlikely to be appropriate until the situation is clarified as a result of the investigation, which is what happened,” he said.
Peskov on Monday, denied Russia’s involvement in the situation surrounding the Balticconnector.
Balticconnector is the first gas pipeline between Estonia and Finland and has been operational since 2020. The bidirectional pipeline can transport around 7.2 million cubic meters of gas daily.
Earlier this month, the pipeline was shut down due to an unusual drop in pressure which resulted in a leak, after which an investigation was launched.
