ISTANBUL (AA) – In the wake of Russian attacks, NATO's secretary general on Monday said NATO allies have increased their military and humanitarian support to Ukraine.
Jens Stoltenberg tweeted that he had held a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in which he “commended him for the bravery of the people & armed forces of Ukraine.”
“NATO Allies are stepping up support with air-defense missiles, anti-tank weapons, as well as humanitarian & financial aid,” Stoltenberg said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the military intervention on Thursday, days after recognizing two separatist-held enclaves in eastern Ukraine.
At least 368,000 Ukrainians have since fled to Poland, Hungary, Romania, Moldova and other countries, according to the UN Refugee Agency.
Western nations have also imposed harsh financial sanctions on Moscow.
