NEW DELHI (AA) – At least four people were killed and 20 others injured in sporadic violence in the restive Indian state of Manipur in the past two days, officials said on Tuesday.
The Manipur police said four people were killed and 14 people were injured by “unknown armed miscreants” in the northeastern state’s Thoubal district a day earlier.
A special team is investigating the case, the police said on X.
Chief Minister Biren Singh visited the families of the deceased people and said the government was “committed to ensuring swift and thorough investigations to bring those responsible to justice.”
In another incident, six security personnel were injured after they came under an attack of armed groups in Moreh in the state's Tengnoupal district on Tuesday, the police said.
The injured personnel were evacuated to Manipur's capital Imphal for medical treatment.
“Forces are on high alert to prevent any untoward incident,” the police said on X.
The fresh incident followed ethnic clashes in Manipur eight months ago, which resulted in the killing of at least 180 people and affected thousands of others.
In December, authorities held a mass burial for over 80 people killed in ethnic clashes which happened in May last year.
