Swedish prosecutors have closed the preliminary sexual harassment investigation into Real Madrid's French star Kylian Mbappe, senior prosecutor Marina Chirakova announced on Thursday, citing a lack of evidence.
"During the course of the investigation, there has been a designated person reasonably suspected of rape and two cases of sexual harassment, but my assessment is that the evidence is not sufficient to proceed further and the investigation is therefore closed," Chirakova said in a statement.
"The evidence secured in the investigation is not alone sufficient to complete the preliminary investigation against the background that the plaintiff no longer wishes to participate in the investigation. Further investigation measures are not deemed to change the state of evidence in a decisive way," he added.
Mbappe was accused of rape and sexual harassment during a visit to Stockholm in October.
The 25-year-old's legal team dismissed those reports as "false" at that time.
