ANKARA (AA) – Swedish athlete Armand Duplantis broke his own pole vault world record, clearing 6.23 meters in the Stockholm Diamond League final on Sunday.
The previous record was 6.22 meters, which was also set by the 23-year-old in France in February of this year.
EJ Obiena of the Philippines finished second with 5.82 meters, while the US-based athlete Sam Kendricks placed third with 5.72 meters.
"The crowd was amazing to stay like that," Duplantis was quoted on the league’s official website as saying, with the additional statement, "It says so much about their passion for watching athletics, and I will always be grateful for that."
Duplantis leads the Diamond League men’s pole vault standings with 16 points, while Obiena placed second with 13.
