ANKARA (AA) - Switzerland topped the Group A of the FIFA Women's World Cup on goal average after they beat Philippines 2-0 on Friday.
Swiss forward Ramona Bachmann scored the opener via a penalty kick in minute 45, with her teammate Seraina Piubel adding another in the 64th minute as Switzerland sealed a win in New Zealand's Dunedin.
Co-hosts New Zealand are now in second place in Group A. They defeated Norway 1-0 on Thursday.
Both Switzerland and New Zealand have three points after matchday one.
Norway are third, and the Philippines are in the last place in the group.
Switzerland will next face Norway on July 25, and New Zealand will play against the Philippines on the same day.
