IDLIB, Syria (AA) – Forces of Syria’s Bashar al-Assad regime attacked areas of Idlib, killing one civilian, local health sources said Thursday.

Nine others were also wounded in the attacks on central neighborhoods, according to hospital sources.

They were referred to nearby hospitals.

The regime continues to attack villages in Idlib’s city center and Mount Zawiya with surface-to-surface weapons.

The number of people killed in the attacks since early Wednesday has risen to four and the number of wounded to 11.

Idlib falls within a de-escalation zone forged under an agreement between Türkiye and Russia in March 2020.

The Syrian regime, however, has consistently violated the terms of the cease-fire, launching frequent attacks inside the de-escalation zone.

Syria has been mired in a vicious civil war since early 2011, when the Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests with unexpected ferocity.

Around half a million people have been killed and more than 12 million had to flee their homes over the past decade.
