DAMASCUS, Syria (AA) – The Syrian regime said on Tuesday that its air defense systems had thwarted an Israeli airstrike on the Damascus countryside.
The regime-run SANA news agency said Israel launched an aerial attack from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting several military points in the Damascus countryside.
The Israeli attack was repelled, and some of the missiles were destroyed in the air, SANA said, citing a Syrian military source.
Only material losses were reported by the news agency.
The Israeli army has yet to comment on the Syrian statement.
The foiled airstrike occurred during the Israeli army's ongoing devastating war against the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, which has killed over 31,700 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured nearly 73,000 others, according to Palestinian health authorities.
