ANKARA (AA) – World no. 1 in women's tennis Iga Swiatek on Tuesday extended her winning run to 36 matches after beating her Croatian opponent Jana Fett in the 2022 Wimbledon.
Poland's Swiatek, 21, beat Fett 6-0, 6-3 in the Wimbledon's first round.
Following her victory, Wimbledon confirmed on Twitter that Swiatek has now the longest winning streak in women's tennis this century.
In the second round, Swiatek will face 30-year-old Dutch player Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove, who ranked 138th in the globe.
Warsaw native Swiatek, a two-time French Open champion in women's singles, has never won Wimbledon so far.
The 2022 Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the year, started on Monday and will run through July 10.
