ISTANBUL (AA) - Aslan Karatsev advanced to the Australian Open semifinals on Tuesday after beating Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria.
No. 114 seed Karatsev claimed a 3-1 victory over 18th seed Dimitrov with the sets of 2-6, 6-4, 6-1, and 6-2 at Rod Laver Arena.
Karatsev, 27, made history at the Australian Open, becoming the first man in the Open Era to advance to the semifinals on his Grand Slam debut.
Russian player will face the winner of Novak Djokovic - Alexander Zverev game in the men's singles semifinals.
In the women's singles, Japanese player Naomi Osaka defeated Hsieh Su-Wei from Taiwan to qualify for the semifinals.
The world number three Osaka eliminated Su-Wei with 6-2 and 6-2 after one hour and six minutes.
Osaka will play against either Simona Halep or Serena Williams in the next phase.
