ISTANBUL (AA) - Thailand’s election watchdog on Tuesday said it will seek the dissolution of the opposition Move Forward Party.

The Election Commission “resolved today to request the Constitutional Court to disband the Move Forward Party and disqualify its party’s executive members,” according to the Thai Public Broadcasting Service reported.

Earlier this year, in a unanimous ruling, the Constitutional Court had found the party and its former leader Pita Limjaroenrat guilty of seeking to overthrow the country’s constitutional monarchy system.

The top court had based its decision on the party’s political campaign to amend the lese majeste law, known as Section 112.

The law relates to the constitutional monarchy in the Buddhist-majority nation.
