ISTANBUL (AA) - Thailand sentenced Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn to death for the premeditated murder of her friend with cyanide, according to media reports.

The Bangkok Criminal Court ruled Wednesday that Sararat, 36, dubbed "Am Cyanide," intentionally poisoned Siriporn “Koy” Khanwong in April 2023, reported the Nation Thailand.

Sararat was also ordered to pay 2 million baht ($57,667) in compensation to Siriporn's family.

Investigators said Sararat had poisoned more than 15 victims since 2015, motivated by financial gain to fuel her gambling addiction.

She reportedly borrowed money from her victims and stole their possessions.

Sararat‘s ex-husband received a 16-month prison sentence for concealing evidence, while her lawyer was sentenced to two years for aiding Sararat and tampering with evidence.

Thailand’s last execution occurred in 2018 when a court sentenced a 26-year-old man who was found guilty of robbery resulting in death.

The death sentence is a rare ruling in Thailand.
