Uruguayan defender Diego Godin on Monday announced his retirement, ending a 20-year football career at age 37.
He published a video message on social media, with the caption: "The time has come. Thank you, football."
Veteran defender played for major European clubs including Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Villarreal. This season, he played in Argentina for Velez Sarsfield.
He bagged two UEFA Europa League titles in 2012 and 2018 along with 2014 Spanish La Liga title with Atletico.
Godin holds the record for most Uruguay appearances with 161 games, and netted eight times for the national team.
