ANKARA (AA) – Second-seeded Dominic Thiem advanced to the semifinals of the US Open with a straight sets win over Australia’s Alex De Minaur.
Thiem put up a convincing display in his 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 victory to become the first Austrian ever to reach the tournament’s semifinals.
He will take on Russia’s Daniil Medvedev, who sealed his spot by defeating compatriot Andrey Rublev 7-6, 6-3, 7-6.
The other men’s semifinal will be between German Alexander Zverev and Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta.
Over in the women’s singles, Victoria Azarenka from Belarus swept aside Belgium’s Elise Mertens 6-1, 6-0 to book her place in the semifinals.
Azarenka, a former world No.1, will face Serena Williams on Friday.
