ISTANBUL (AA) – The foreign ministers of Japan and the UAE on Monday discussed bilateral and international issues, including the situation in the Middle East and the Ukraine war, during the latter’s visit to Tokyo.
Yoshimasa Hayashi held a meeting with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is visiting Japan for the first time in five years, a statement by the Japanese Foreign Ministry said.
“The cooperation between Japan and the UAE covers a wide range of areas, and is no longer limited to the boundaries of the two countries, and is now taking place in various locations, including in the Middle East region and third countries,” the statement said.
Hayashi emphasized the “importance of the rule of law and the principles of the UN Charter.”
Al Nahyan said the UAE would like to work together with Japan, including cooperation in the UN Security Council.
The two ministers also exchanged views on cooperation in the fields of defense and on the situation in Ukraine, the Middle East, and East Asia, including North Korea.
