ISTANBUL (AA) – In a phone call on Wednesday, senior Ukrainian and US officials discussed the meeting between their respective presidents last week and the current situation surrounding the Russia-Ukraine war.

“We summarized the results of the meeting between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of the United States Joseph Biden, which took place last week in Kyiv,” Andriy Yermak, the head of Ukraine’s presidential office, said on Telegram.

Yermak and US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan also discussed the situation in the frontline, particularly the defense of the Bakhmut city in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region.

Yermak further said the recent drone attacks by Russia on Ukraine were also discussed, noting he also exchanged views on the 10-step peace formula presented by Zelenskyy during the Group of 20 summit in Indonesia last November and “the common desire for a just peace” supported by the countries across the world.

“I thanked the American side for supporting the resolution ‘Principles of the Charter of the United Nations underlying a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine’ at the General Assembly of the United Nations, for which 141 countries voted in favor,” the Ukrainian official said.

Yermak added that he expressed his gratitude to the US people, Biden, and both houses of the US Congress for “their unwavering strong support for Ukraine in the fight against the terrorist state.”

Biden arrived in Kyiv on Jan. 20 on an unannounced visit, two months after Zelenskyy traveled to the US for his first visit abroad since the start of Russia's war in Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022.
