ANKARA (AA) - Turkish football club Trabzonspor on Thursday retired the jersey of Yusuf Yazici to honor him.
Trabzonspor posted a video on their Twitter account in which they put Yazici's no. 97 shirt into a glass display counter at the club's museum.
"Until you come back #YusufYazıcı #97," the Black Sea club said, as only he will be able to wear this jersey if he returns to the club.
"It's a very big honor, responsibility," 23-year-old midfielder said on social media and he thanked Trabzonspor board for their courtesy.
Coming from Trabzonspor's youth setup, Yazici played for this team from Dec. 2015 to Aug. 2019.
The Turkish attacking midfielder scored 22 goals and produced 21 assists in 100 appearances for Trabzonspor.
Yazici made his way to France's Lille in 2019 summer for a transfer fee of €16.5 million ($18.4 million).
This season Yazici tallied one goal and four assists in 25 matches for the French club.
His contract at Lille will expire in June 2024.
