ANKARA (AA) - The Turkish Super Lig will resume after the international break on Friday as Sunday's Trabzonspor vs. Fenerbahce match will be one of the highly anticipated contests of the weekend.
One of the "Big Four" in the league, Trabzonspor are one of the title contenders this season.
The Black Sea club have 18 points to be in the second position in the league table topped by their opponents Fenerbahce.
Istanbul's Fenerbahce, who will be the visitors at Medical Park on Sunday, bagged 19 points in eight matches.
So, the second-place Trabzonspor eye the top spot, meanwhile Fenerbahce want to retain their lead in the Super Lig.
Trabzonspor's Slovakian central midfielder Marek Hamsik, 34, was troubled by a thigh muscle strain as the club confirmed, adding that the experienced player's treatment is ongoing.
Meanwhile, Fenerbahce regulars Serdar Aziz and Irfan Can Kahveci have injuries.
Turkish defender Aziz has an eye injury, and midfielder Kahveci faced a hamstring injury.
Aziz was injured during the international duty against Norway on Oct. 8 that Turkey were hold to a 1-1 draw in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying group match in Istanbul.
He is expected to play on Sunday.
The clash between the teams in the Black Sea province of Trabzon will kick off at 1600GMT.
Trabzonspor's Greek midfielder Anastasios Bakasetas was in a good form before the Fenerbahce showdown.
Bakasetas scored five goals in the 2021-22 Super Lig season.
Nigerian winger Anthony Nwakaeme tallied four league goals to be one of the goal threats for Trabzonspor.
Fenerbahce's threat will be Mesut Ozil as the 33-year-old star scored two goals in the league.
Similar to Ozil, Ecuadoran forward Enner Valencia and Dutch midfielder Ferdi Kadioglu scored two league goals each.
