LONDON (AA) - A man has been arrested after a triple stabbing in Manchester resulted in the death of a 43-year-old woman and serious injuries to a 64-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl, police said Monday.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) reported that the 22-year-old suspect was detained on suspicion of murder following the incident at a property on Barnard Road in the Gorton area near Longsight.

"Tragically, the woman in her 40s was pronounced dead at the scene. The two others are receiving treatment in hospital for injuries that are currently believed to be life-threatening," stated GMP.

Detective Superintendent Toby Facey noted that investigators have been working through the night to determine the motive behind the attack. "Local officers will continue their enquiries and increase patrols in the area," he added.
