NEW YORK (AA) – President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday urged Democrats to help fix the country’s health care reform known as Obamacare.
"The Democrats, lead by head clown Chuck Schumer, know how bad Obamacare is and what a mess they are in. Instead of working to fix it, they do the typical political thing and BLAME," Trump said in via Twitter.
"The fact is Obamacare was a lie from the beginning."Keep you doctor, keep your plan!" It is time for Republicans & Democrats to get together and come up with a healthcare plan that really works - much less expensive & FAR BETTER!," he added.
Trump campaigned on a promise to repeal President Barack Obama’s signature legislation, formally known as the Affordable Care Act.
Immediately after he won the election and met Obama, he said he might keep portions of the law.
Trump’s comments Thursday, however, are his first indication he wants a bipartisan effort to fix the health care law.
Approximately 20 million people gained health insurance under Obamacare, but Republicans, who now control Congress, are eager to repeal the law.
House Speaker Paul Ryan said he expects the Affordable Care Act to be repealed and replaced in the coming months. "Our legislating will occur this year,” he said Thursday.
Trump nor congressional Republicans have not yet proposed any replacement plan.
A top Trump's adviser, Kellyanne Conway, tried earlier this week to reassure consumers who currently use the health care plan.
"We don't want anyone who currently has insurance to not have insurance,” she said Tuesday.
Obama urged Democratic lawmakers Wednesday "not to rescue" Republicans in Congress to pass legislation to repeal or replace Obamacare.
