WASHINGTON (AA) - The Republican Party officially nominated former President Donald Trump as its 2024 nominee Monday, just two days after he survived an assassination attempt in the state of Pennsylvania.
Trump reportedly crossed a key threshold during a procedural counting of Republican delegates on Monday afternoon, during the four-day Republican National Convention, making him the official nominee.
Just moments prior, Trump announced that Ohio Sen. JD Vance will be his running mate heading into November's national election.
"After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio," Trump said on his proprietary Truth Social website.
Vance has yet to officially comment, but is expected to address the Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based convention later Monday.
