ISTANBUL (AA) - Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in Istanbul issued arrest warrants Tuesday for 170 people over suspected links to the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), an illegal network behind the defeated coup attempt in 2016, a security source said.
Warrants came as part of an Istanbul-based investigation in 38 provinces across Turkey against FETO suspects. Some of the suspects are on-duty military personnel, said the source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on talking to the media.
FETO and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup attempt of July 15, 2016, which left 250 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.
Ankara also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
