ANKARA (AA) - Turkey on Monday marked the 75th anniversary of the foundation of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
"We observe that the Organization [UNESCO] has been determined on working for world peace and sustainable development through education, science and culture," the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Recalling that Turkey is one of the 20 founding states, the ministry said that Turkey congratulates the UNESCO family and reaffirming the country's commitment to ideals and goals of the UNESCO.
"The United Nations system has been one of the fundamental pillars of the post World War II order,” it said.
“This year, the Presidency of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly is undertaken by Ambassador Volkan Bozkır and the Presidency of the UNESCO 40th General Conference is assumed by Ambassador Altay Cengizer," the ministry noted.
The ministry stressed that Turkey, which is also a member of the UNESCO Executive Board, is working towards providing peace and stability, while supporting every effort to address global challenges as well as promoting attempts to eliminate disparities, as part of its humanitarian foreign policy.
Headquartered in Paris, the UN agency was established in 1945 in London following the WW II.
