EDIRNE, Turkey (AA) - Two people suspected of links to the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) were nabbed in northwestern Turkey while trying to illegally escape to Greece, security sources said Monday.
The suspects were arrested and taken into custody in Edirne, a northwestern Turkish province bordering Greece, sources said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.
FETO and its US-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated a defeated coup in Turkey on July 15, 2016, leaving 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.
Turkey also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
