Turkey: Over 9 tons of drugs seized in Istanbul in 2018

Amount of drugs, pills seized rose by 17 pct compared to last year

ISTANBUL (AA) - Anti-drug police confiscated over nine tons of drugs in Istanbul in 2018, according to a police report on Monday.

In 685 operations across the city, anti-drug department of Istanbul police seized nearly 6.6 million pills this year, the report issued by the Istanbul police headquarters revealed.

The police arrested over 63,000 suspects during the operations. Nearly 6,000 of them were remanded into custody, it added.

According to the report, number of suspects arrested increased by 39 percent compared to 2017.

The amount of drugs and pills seized also rose by 17 percent compared to the last year.
