SAKARYA/SAMSUN, Turkey (AA) - A total of three people, including a former police chief, were remanded in custody for suspected links to Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), the group behind the 2016 defeated deadly coup in Turkey, judicial sources said on Friday.

A Turkish court in northwestern Sakarya province remanded two suspects over their links to FETO terror group.

Meanwhile, in the Black Sea province of Samsun, police arrested a former police chief who was already convicted for being a member of FETO.

Identified only with initials S.B., the ex-police officer remanded due to earlier conviction for being a member of armed terror group.

FETO and its US-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup on July 15, 2016, which left 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Ankara also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
