Turkey: Unemployment stands at 14.7% in January

Number of jobless aged 15 and over reaches over 4.67 million, says Turkey's statistical authority

ISTANBUL (AA) - The unemployment rate in Turkey was 14.7% in January 2019, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced on Monday.

"The unemployment rate occurred as 14.7% with 3.9 percentage point increase," TurkStat said in a statement.

The number of jobless -- aged 15 and over -- in the country reached 4.67 million, up by 1.26 million from January 2018.

The number of employed persons were 27.16 million people in the month, official figures showed.
