ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s main stock index finished the day down 295.65 points on Tuesday to stand at 90,606.46 points.
The BIST 100 fell 0.33 percent during a day’s trading worth 4.6 billion Turkish liras ($1.27 billion).
The banking and holding sectors fell by 0.85 and 0.65 percent respectively while the electricity index was the day’s best performer -- up 2.03 percent. The transport sector was worst, losing 2.49 percent in value.
The five most traded stocks were Turkish Airlines, Garanti Bank, Park Elektrik, Halkbank and Akbank.
Real estate investment trust Vakif GYO was the best performing company of the day, rising 19.77 percent. Stocks of conglomerate Verusa Holding suffered the biggest drop of the day, falling 8.33 percent.
The U.S. dollar fell against the Turkish lira to stand 3.5930 liras at 5.00 p.m. local time (1400GMT).
The Borsa Istanbul Gold Exchange index was down by 0.23 percent while the price of gold per kilogram decreased to 142,986 Turkish liras ($39,574) at 4.30 p.m. local time (1330GMT).
