Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at close

BIST 100 index falls nearly 0.06 pct; US dollar/Turkish lira rate stands at around 3.66

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s benchmark index closed the day with a 56.92-point fall to stand at 88,612.55 points on Tuesday.

The BIST 100 index was down 0.06 percent with a total trading volume of 3.1 billion Turkish liras (approximately $845 million).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 3.6620 liras as of 5 p.m. (1400GMT) Tuesday, compared with 3.6400 at Monday's close.

The Borsa Istanbul Gold Exchange index climbed 1.20 percent while the price of gold per kilogram also increased to 148,000 Turkish liras (some $40,355) as of 4.30 p.m. (1330GMT), up from 146,200 Turkish liras (around $40,134) at Monday's close.

On the second transaction day of the week, the banking and holding sector indices rose 0.13 and 0.02 percent, respectively.

Among all sectors, the transportation index was the best performer of the day -- up 1.68 percent -- while the chemical, petrol, and plastic sector was the worst, falling 3.31 percent.

Shares of integrated electric producer and wholesaler Odas Elektrik (ODAS) were the top gainer on Tuesday, rising 4.82 percent. Stocks of tube and pipe producer ERBOSAN Erciyas Tube (ERBOS) were the worst performer of the day, losing 5.70 percent.

The five most-traded stocks were private lenders Garanti, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, state lender Halkbank, and private lenders Akbank and Is Bankasi.
