Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at midweek open

BIST 100 index falls over 240 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index dropped 0.22% or 248.06 points on Wednesday to start the midweek at 110,959.21 points.

At Tuesday's close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index went up 3.63% to 111,207.27 points with a daily trading volume of 10.07 billion Turkish liras ($1.62 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate decreased to 6.1430 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, down from Tuesday's closing rate of 6.1640.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 6.8490, versus 6.8550, and one British pound was traded for 7.8860 Turkish liras. It was 7.9130 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $52.41 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday.
