Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at opening

BIST 100 index opens 0.17 percent lower compared to Thursday's close; Turkish lira slightly higher against the US dollar

ANKARA (AA) – The BIST 100 index fell 126.43 points to open at 76,259.87 in its first transactions on Friday.

The country's benchmark index started with a 0.17 percent decline in the last opening session of the week.

The banking and holding sector indices decreased by 0.03 and 0.16 percent, respectively. The wood printing paper sector index rose the most, by 0.6 percent, while the trading index saw the biggest drop, 1.14 percent, in initial transactions.

Meanwhile, the U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate fell to stand at 3.6190 at 9.30 a.m. local time (0630 GMT) on Friday, compared with 3.6250 at Monday's close.

Gold held at $1,174.23 an ounce.

The U.S. crude futures decreased by 0.19 percent to stand at $53.66 a barrel, while benchmark Brent crude futures slipped by 0.23 percent to reach $56.76.

Investors will follow the U.S. unemployment rate and non-farm payrolls’ report due today, according to analysts.
