ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark index started the day with a 413.25 point decrease to open at 88,199.29 on Wednesday.
On the third transaction day of the week, the BIST 100 index fell 0.47 percent. The banking sector index rose 0.05 percent while the holding index dropped 0.05 percent, respectively.
Among all sectors, the investment trusts sector index was the best performer -- up 0.74 percent -- while the basic metal sector index started the day with the biggest decline, falling 4.92 percent.
In Tuesday's closing session, the benchmark index decreased 56.92 points or 0.06 percent to 88,612.55 with a total trading volume of 3.1 billion Turkish liras ($845 million).
The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 3.6720 at 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, compared with 3.6620 at Tuesday's close.
