ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day with a 0.02 percent or 23.10-point decrease to 103,907.57 points with a trading volume of 4.8 billion Turkish liras ($1.33 billion) on Tuesday.
The banking sector index fell 0.46 percent and the holding sector index rose 0.13 percent.
Among all sectors, the basic metal index advanced the most with a 2.86 percent hike, while the mining sector index fell 1.37 percent.
Shares of lender ICBC Turkey Bank (ICBCT) showed the highest increase, up 14.71 percent, and stocks of investment trust Global Yatirim Holding (GLYHO) were the worst performer, falling 3.39 percent.
The five most-traded stocks of the BIST 100 were national flag carrier Turkish Airlines (THYAO), private lender Garanti (GARAN), energy and mining company Ipek Dogal Enerji (IPEKE), mining firm Koza Mandencilik (KOZAA), and iron and steel producer Eregli Demir Celik (EREGL).
The BIST 100 was up 1,022.94 points or 0.99 percent to 103,930.67 points with a trading volume of 4 billion Turkish liras (around $1.12 billion) at the close on Monday.
The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 3.5810 by 5 p.m. local time (1400GMT) Tuesday, down from 3.5760 at Monday's close.
The Borsa Istanbul's Gold Exchange index was down 0.16 percent, while the price of gold per kilogram fell to 146,500 Turkish liras ($42,008) as of 4.30 p.m. local time (1330GMT) on the day.
