ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s benchmark index closed the day with a 687.65-point decline to reach 89,695.05 points Monday.
The BIST 100 index fell by 0.76 percent with a total trading volume of 3.3 billion Turkish liras ($916.9 million).
On the first trading day of the week, banking and holding sectors fell by 0.66 and 1.05 percent, respectively.
The textile and leather sector index was the day’s best performer -- rising 2.70 percent -- while the real estate investment trust index closed the day with the biggest decline, falling by 3.52 percent.
The five most traded stocks were real estate investment trust Emlak Konut, private lender Garanti Bank, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, state lender Halkbank, plus the country's leading petrochemical producer, Petkim.
Fenerbahce's shares, listed as FENER were Monday's top gainer with an increase of 6.39 percent, while energy company Ayen suffered the largest decline of the day, down 7.04 percent.
The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate decreased to 3.6130 liras as of 5 p.m. (1400GMT) Monday, compared to 3.6230 at Friday's close.
The Borsa Istanbul Gold Exchange index went up 1.29 percent while the price of gold per kilogram slightly increased to 145,650 Turkish liras (around $40,303) as of 4.30 p.m. (1330GMT), compared to 145,250 Turkish liras (some $40,039) at Friday's close.
