ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index increased by 1.01 percent to close at 101,097.16 points on Monday.
Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index closed the day up 1,012.79 points with a total trading volume of 3.3 billion Turkish liras (approximately $915 million).
The banking and holding sectors rose 0.85 percent and 1.35 percent, respectively. Among all sectors, the investment trusts index was the best performer -- up 4.3 percent -- while the food and beverage sector had the worst performance, dropping by 0.96 percent.
Stocks of Pegasus Airlines (PGSUS) were the top gainer with a 8.05 percent rise, while Coca Cola Icecek (CCOLA) suffered the biggest decline, with its shares going down 2.28 percent.
The most active stocks of the day Turkish Airlines (THYAO) and Pegasus Airlines (PGSUS), lenders Garanti (GARAN) and Halkbank (HALKB), followed by leading petrochemicals producer, Petkim (PETKM).
The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate decreased to 3.6060 as of 5 p.m. (1400GMT) on Monday, compared with 3.6240 at Friday's close.
Borsa Istanbul's Gold Exchange index fell 1.37 percent while the price of gold per kilogram stood at 140,900 Turkish liras (some $39,052) as of 4.30 p.m (1330 GMT).
