ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed Monday at 108,466.78 points, up 582.75 points, with a trade volume of 5 billion Turkish liras ($1.32 billion).
Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rose 0.54 percent. The BIST banking sector index increased 0.85 percent, while holding sector index decreased 0.05 percent.
Among all sector indices, the wood paper printing sector index was the best performer --up 1.47 percent-- and the communication sector index recorded the worst performance with a decrease of 1.02 percent.
Stocks of poultry and feed producer Banvit gained the most with a 17.99 percent hike, while shares of Cemtas Celik Makina, which operates in the steel industry, suffered the biggest drop, falling 2.46 percent.
Stocks of the BIST 100 with the highest trade volume were national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Garanti, iron and steel producer Kardemir Karabuk, followed by defense company Aselsan and the country's leading petrochemicals producer Petkim.
At Monday's close, the EUR/TRY exchange rate dropped to 4.3950 -- up from Friday's close at 4.4260 -- and the U.S. dollar/Turkish lira rate fell to 3.7830, compared with 3.8110 at last close.
Borsa Istanbul's Gold Exchange index rose 0.81 percent and the price of gold per kilogram was 154,500 Turkish liras ($40,934) as of 4.30 p.m. local time (1330GMT) while it was 155,800 Turkish liras ($41,279) at Friday's close.
Brent crude oil price stood at $60.23 per barrel as of 18.00 p.m. local time (1500GMT) at Monday's close, compared with $60.20 at Friday's close.
