Turkey's Borsa Istanbul goes up at opening

BIST 100 index opens 0.23 percent higher, US dollar/Turkish lira rate stands at around 3.66

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark index started the day with a 209.06-point increase to open at 91,582.84 points on Wednesday.

On the third transaction day of the week, the BIST 100 index rose by 0.23 percent.

The banking and holding sector indices went up by 0.29 percent and 0.14 percent, respectively.

Among all sectors, the wood, paper, printing sector index was the best performer -- up by 0.50 percent -- while the construction index started the day with the biggest decline, falling by 0.86 percent.

At the close on Tuesday, the BIST 100 went up 719.98 points or by 0.79 percent to reach 91,373.78 points, with a total trading volume of 5 billion Turkish liras (approximately $1.35 billion), almost the highest close of the last 27 months.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate declined to 3.6680 at 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, compared with 3.6840 at Tuesday’s close.
