Turkey's Borsa Istanbul sees new record high at close

BIST 100 index rises over 7 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index closed at 1,615.64 points on Tuesday, rising 0.44% from the previous close, refreshing a new high level.

After starting the day at 1,612.01 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 7.10 points from Monday's close of 1,608.54 points.

The index's lowest value during the day was 1,605.41 points and its daily high was 1,631.45 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was over 1.2 trillion Turkish liras ($131 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 34.6 billion Turkish liras ($3.6 billion).

A total of 44 stocks on the index rose, while 52 fell, and four remained unchanged, compared to Monday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and petrochemical firm Petkim.

Shares of Petkim performed the best, rising 6.45%, while stocks of energy firm Can Termik dropped the most, 4.75%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,825.10 by market close, up from $1,816.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was up 0.89% to $82.66 per barrel as of 6.43 p.m. local time (1543GMT).
