Turkey's Borsa Istanbul starts Friday up 1.22%

BIST 100 index rises over 1,200 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index started Friday up 1.22% or 1,208.39 points to open at 100,401.42 points.

On Thursday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 0.96% to close at 99,193.03 points with a daily trading volume of 14.5 billion Turkish liras ($2.1 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate slipped to 6.9160 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Friday, compared to 6.9630 at Thursday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also decreased to 7.4752, versus 7.5120, and one British pound traded for 8.4540 Turkish liras, compared to 8.5140.

One barrel of Brent oil sold for $32.20 as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Friday.
