Turkey's Borsa Istanbul starts Friday up 2.12%

BIST 100 index rises over 2,000 points from Thursday's close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index started Friday up 2.12% or 2,038.07 points to open at 98,287.16 points.

On Thursday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 was up 0.41% at 96,249.13 points, with a daily trading volume of 13.6 billion Turkish liras ($2 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate fell to 6.9260 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Friday, versus 6.9420 at the previous close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also decreased to 7.5130, compared to 7.5520, and one British pound traded for 8.6600 Turkish liras, versus 8.6990 at Thursday's close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $28.30 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Friday.
