ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s benchmark stock index opened at 1,130.72 points on Friday, up 11.16 points or 1% from the previous close.
At Thursday's close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index had climbed 1.53% to 1,119.56 points, with a daily trading volume of some 21 billion Turkish liras ($2.8 billion).
The Turkish lira gained ground against other currencies following a Central Bank decision to raise interest rates by 200 basis points to 10.25% after holding rates unchanged at 8.25% at its last three meetings.
The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate fell to 7.5820 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) Friday, down from Thursday's closing rate of 7.6190.
The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 8.8490 from 8.8800, and one British pound traded for 9.6970 Turkish liras, down from 9.8070 at the previous close.
One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $41.98 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Friday.
