Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up 0.22% at Friday opening

BIST 100 index increases 220 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index rose by 0.22%, or 221.17 points, to start the last transaction day of the week at 98,689.69 points.

On Thursday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index slipped by 0.23% to close the day at 98,468.52 points with a daily trading volume of 5.7 billion Turkish liras (nearly $1 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 5.7210 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Friday, compared to 5.7140 at Thursday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also increased to 6.3840, versus 6.3750, and one British pound traded for 7.4310 Turkish liras, while it was 7.4210 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil was sold for around $59.64 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Friday.
