BIST 100 index climbs 0.60 percent, Turkish lira gains ground

ANKARA (AA) - The BIST 100 stock exchange was up 665.53 points, or 0.60 percent, to close at 111,765.00 points on Monday.

The trade volume was 3 billion Turkish liras ($787 million) while the banking and holding sectors rose by 0.52 and 0.69 percent respectively.

Among all sectors, the mining sector was the day's best performer, rising 3.99 percent, while the sports sector saw a 2.07 percent drop.

Stocks in real estate investor Alarko Gmyo saw the top gains, recording a 6.29 percent rise.

Shares in Trabzonspor, which includes the football club, saw the largest decline, falling 2.99 percent.

The day's most traded stocks were in Turkish Airlines, iron and steel producer Karabuk Kardemir, defense company ASELSAN, automotive manufacturer Karsan Otomotiv and polyester producer Sasa Polyester.

The market fell 172.49 points to 111,099.47 at Friday's close, with a total trading volume of 5.2 billion liras ($1.36 billion).

The US dollar/lira rate fell to 3.8110 as of 5 p.m. local time (1400GMT) on Monday, from 3.81800 at Friday's close.

The euro/lira exchange rate dropped to 4.5080, compared with last week's close of 4.5290.

The BIST Gold Exchange index gained 0.70 percent with a kilogram of gold traded at 156,100 liras ($40,958) as of 4.30 p.m. local time (1330GMT) Monday, up from Friday's close of 155,750 liras ($40,877).
