ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index started the week up 0.80 percent to open at 108,788.52 points on Monday.
Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rose 867.18 points in the opening session. On Friday the index was up 1.38 percent to close at 107,921.34 points, with a 6.2-billion-Turkish lira ($1.61 billion) trade volume.
Last week, the benchmark index showed a 4.2 percent weekly increase, as it has risen 38.8 percent since the beginning of this year.
At the opening session on Monday morning, the banking and holding sector indices rose 1.36 and 0.48 percent, respectively. The BIST banking index was the top performer at the open, with all sector indices starting the week up.
One U.S. dollar traded for 3.8260 Turkish liras as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) Monday, compared with Friday's closing USD/TRY rate of 3.8300.
The EUR/TRY stood at 4.5100 on Monday morning, compared to 4.5050 at the close on Friday.
The price of Brent oil fell to $63.11 per barrel as of 9.15 a.m. local time (0615GMT) Monday, compared with Friday's close at $62.89.
